A fresh face for the new year

Monday, December 31st, 2012

We’ve completed the rollout of Forex Factory’s new front-end. :)

It’s a lot more than a facelift! The new front-end utilizes the latest web technologies to load the site faster and make it more consistent across browsers and devices.

While the functionality of the site remains mostly unchanged, the design introduces a new “sticky” navigation that consistently keeps all FF products just one click away. The navigation also employs a wider layout to tap into muscle-memory, thereby reducing the amount of effort needed to get around the site.

Forget how the site used to look? Here’s a screen capture right before the new front-end launched:

We’ve already received some great feedback — thank you very much! We’re working hard to improve on issues that have been brought to our attention, and you can expect to see constant improvements in the coming weeks.

Like something? Something bothering you? Let us know in the comments or by contacting us. We carefully consider all feedback!

Thanks for helping to make 2012 another great year for Forex Factory! Best of luck in the new year! :)

New FF logo; new front-end to follow

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Behold! Forex Factory has a new logo! :)

We stuck to our roots with a factory shape, but the new logo bears precision and meaningfulness that better represent Forex Factory’s ideals and design approach.

The old logo served us well. It was a simple logo, proudly guarding over the site for almost nine years. In 2005, its shape was used as an icon to convey the expected market impact of calendar events ( ) — a pioneering feature that would later become ubiquitous in the financial world.

In 2011, the logo mark was again used to communicate market impact in an innovative way — this time signifying the actual impact of breaking news stories. Through the years, after serving millions upon millions of traders, our old logo became one of the most recognizable forex-related shapes in the world.

Goodbye ole’ buddy!

The new logo is the first step in a larger design initiative. We’re currently working on a new front-end for the site that will change the way you see FF. Here’s a preview:

You won’t have to worry about re-learning Forex Factory, as the new design will leave the site’s functionality and layout virtually unchanged. The only difference will be that the site looks better, loads faster, and will be more compatible across devices.

And thus begins a new chapter in Forex Factory’s evolution. :)

A better search engine for FF

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Forex Factory has a new search engine! It’s smarter, easier to use, and more tightly integrated with Forex Factory’s products. Check it out: http://www.forexfactory.com/search.php

You can utilize four different search types to locate information. For everyday use, the ‘Google Powered’ search harnesses Google’s algorithm to find relevant content throughout Forex Factory. For Forum-specific searches, the custom-built ‘Forum Posts’ search is a powerful tool when used with the ‘Advanced Options.’ There’s also a News-specific search, and a ‘Posts by Member’ search that makes it easy to sort through posts a member has made.

The ‘Posts by Member’ search pulls together member-specific content from around the site, and it ushers in new nomenclature. The word ‘post’ now encompasses four items: forum threads started, forum thread replies, news stories submitted, and news story comments. This puts all of a member’s contributions into a single, easily-browsed list. Of course you can still search specific post types by clicking on the ‘Post Type’ links or setting the advanced options.

We hope this new search engine helps you find what you’re looking for! If you run into any bugs, or have feedback, please let us know.

New features added

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Since our last blog update we’ve been adding a lot of new features to the site. Here’s a few you might find useful:

Liquidity graph was added to the Market Sessions. About a year ago we launched the liquidity gauge, which is based on activity from multiple retail Forex brokers (calculation here), and the graph now enables you to visualize liquidity changes over the various sessions.

15-minute interval was added to the Market chart.

‘Related Stories’ was added to the News. The feature pulls together stories based on a number of factors such as keywords, category, and user activity. We’re still refining the underlying algorithm to make it even better!

Market Sessions and Composite Quotes are now placed at the bottom of the homepage, further centralizing the information found throughout Forex Factory.

Flex Box technology was added to the homepage, allowing you to customize the Forum and News content to fit your trading style. Just click the box titles to change the settings. You can even filter posts based on vouchers or your buddy list.

If you encounter a bug or have feedback, please comment or contact us!

A start on aggregate sentiment

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

We whipped up an interface to monitor the activity on the Trader Sentiment feature launched on Tuesday. It was only supposed to be used for internal purposes but I thought it was so cool that I convinced the team to let me put it on the blog. :)

Have a look: http://www.forexfactory.com/sentiment.php

Trader Sentiment beta launched

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Are you bullish on the euro? How about the yen? If you were sharing your opinion with our new Trader Sentiment feature, I’d already know! ;)

Launched today in beta form, Trader Sentiment lets you broadcast your opinion on currencies, commodities, stocks, and interest rates – right on your FF profile!

It’s pretty simple – you share your sentiment through an interface in your Control Panel, which then shows up on your public profile. Now anyone can see your detailed market outlook at any given time.

So give it a try, then comment or contact us to share your thoughts and observations. We love to hear your feedback!
