DDoS attack

Around 9:00am EDT this morning Forex Factory came under DDoS attack, which brought the site down for about three hours and caused intermittent outages throughout the afternoon. We’re using all available resources to defend against the attack, and pulling in additional resources as I type. At the moment the site is operating normally, but these kinds of attacks tend to be fluid and there’s no telling what will happen over the next 48 hours.

The attack actually began Friday evening, but until this morning we were able to fend it off with limited interruption to the website. The defense we used on Friday blocked some legitimate traffic so you might have had trouble accessing the site over the weekend. You may be blocked again as we defend against further attacks, but rest assured the block will be temporary.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Wish us luck!

Why on earth would anyone want to DoDS FF? Curious - hope you can track down who is responsible. Good Luck.

I'am a bit of a dope with computers but What is a DDOS Attack?

Perhaps FF should learn to spend more time investigating false claims against qualified experts than the rants of the trolls who mine this site. You can't run a site and bully people around, some get mad and take action.

  10. For those who are unaware: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack As for the results, it's a good thing whoever managed DDoS ForexFactory wasn't able to wipe out the forum data. That would be catastrophic. Cheers to the ForexFactory team for their wonderful job in protecting the content all 50,000 of us have created

We wouldn't lose that content forever. It's unlikely that FF is running without backups. :) Been in your position Jeff. As soon as one punk disappears , another dweeb comes along thinking he's original too. All the best with this mate.

As a former network security expert, I have had ddos done to my ntwork many times, the first time it was a disaster for us, but next time onwards we never felt any outage, and most importantly, we never even came to know there was a ddos in action, because of some very simple measures we took to secure the network. So needless to say ddos can be managed without spending a dime on anything, just some simple security steps is all that is required.

Probably FF could leverage on the strength of amazon s3 or google app engine. Google App is free (for now) meanwhile amazon s3 is cheap. The only cost is the resources needed to port those codes into app engine/s3.

People who attack FF server only have one purpose, to destroy FF influent in the currency movement, eventhough that is not FF fault. This because few thread at FF has influent to move certain currency around 50 ~ 100 pips. Good luck Jeff, we all support you from behind.

  18. melpheos's Avatar melpheos says:

probably impossible to track down as DDos are sent through corrupted bot PC all around the world. I wish more people were using more secure PC.

  19. TwoBuckChuck's Avatar TwoBuckChuck says:

Exactly melpheos. Fight it form the root I say. Any diablo that can initiate a successful ddos, has already covered their tracks long before it's even initiated. Secure your system and you're helping a worthy cause. Sounds like it was only script kiddies anyway.
